Cooking Supplies: 4 Quirky Items You Need in Your Kitchen

If you can’t handle the heat, get out of the kitchen!

The kitchen is a place of wonders. It’s one of our favorite rooms. You never know what cooking supplies you’ll find in each drawer and cabinet, not to mention the fact that it’s where you’ll find a never-ending supply of delicious food and drink.

Better yet, there are thousands of kitchen gadgets that were made to make your life easier! No matter how modern your kitchen is or how strict your budget, there are always a few quirky kitchen items that are “must-haves.”

We’ve compiled our five favorite, strange, and cool cooking supplies that you NEED in your kitchen. These items are not only clever, but they each perform a unique function that will not only thrill you but also save you time and energy.

1. Citrus Spritzer

The Stem is a tool you never knew you needed. It’s a simple device that works with any and all types of citrus fruits from lemons to limes, oranges, and even grapefruit. Think of it like a quick juicer that lets you spray citrus juice with the press of a finger—no cutting or skinning required.

The Stem is a small nozzle that comes with serrated teeth on the bottom. These teeth make it easy to insert the nozzle into fruit, transforming the fruit into a bottle of juice. Then, you just push down the nozzle, and you can evenly spray the juice onto your food or into your drinks.

“It's simple, straight forward, and yet utter genius too,” reviewed Kaylee Creskoff. “The spray nozzle works great, the gadget is easy to clean and to dis-assemble or re-assemble, and after multiple washes, it still works 100% perfect.”

2. Egg Separator

Whether you’re a baker or just a health conscious eater, you know that sometimes the whole egg is not what you want. But if you’re anything like us, you’re not a fan of using your fingers to separate the slimy yolk from the white of the egg. That’s where the Pluck comes in handy.

The Pluck is a simple and small device that makes it easy to separate yolk and eggs without getting your hands dirty. All you have to do is squeeze and release the Pluck’s flexible silicone body to extract the yolk from the white. Then, squeeze again to put the yolk in a separate container. And cleaning is simple. The Pluck is dishwasher friendly, and separates into two parts for easy and thorough cleaning.

“This is a seriously great creation for anybody like me, who loves their protein and hates having to cook and throw away the yolk, or anyone who wants to make easy and mess free egg-white only omelets,” Kal reviewed. “I haven't seen anything like this before, so I bought one immediately and am glad I did.”

3. 4-in-1 Wine Tool Opener

When you want a glass of wine, you want it immediately. The last thing you want to do is have to fight with the bottle to get it open and poured. That’s why the Verseur is one of our favorite cooking supplies

The Verseur is a four-in-one wine tool that works as a foil cutter, pour spout, rubber stopper, and corkscrew. It literally does everything but drink the wine for you. Using Verseur, you can easily open your favorite bottle of Cabernet Sauvignon, serve it, and then save the rest for another special night.

“I bought one of these for myself,” reviewed Tim Thomas. “It is really well designed and really easy to use. All 4 functions, foil cutter, spout, stopper, and corkscrew work well, but it is the corkscrew that is amazing. So easy to use that I bought some as gifts.”

4. Measuring Food Storage Container

Do you have trouble measuring out just the right amount of spice for your baking or cooking? We don’t know about you, but when we’re pouring out salt from the bag, we always pour too much. The Silo changes all of that.

The Silo is an attractive 12-ounce container that pours one teaspoon at a time. This way, you only use exactly what you need, and the rest stays contained and protected from the elements. Its hinged lid keeps food sealed tight, and the easy measuring keeps you from pouring too much.

“This is a perfect container for spices and other ingredients which you are likely to measure by the teaspoon, such as sugar or salt,” Mark Folmer reviewed. “It pre-measures a spoon for you each time, and keeps the contents safe and dry, while not allowing them to go stale in open-air.”
